Description
A great loop through beautiful meadows to a high rocky ridge with spectacular views along the eastern Sierra and to the main Sierra crest, Mammoth Mountain and far to the deserts of Nevada.
This tour can be undertaken any appropriate time during the winter and access is easy off Highway 395 with plowed parking. Since it is a loop there is no need for a vehicle shuttle.
Skiing ability – Ability to go uphill, downhill doing traverses, make wedge turns and Christies. Ability to kick turn on steeper terrain, able to deal with variable conditions. Holding a traverse line on steeper slopes with a little speed.
This PDF is 6 pages long. It includes a map with the line of the route, a description of the route with some photographs, several waypoints to hit and suggestions on how to play the day.
Also included is a GPX track. Use this to help find you way but do not be a slave to the “blue dot.” The GPX track is not an exact route to follow and doing so might get you into trouble in variable snow conditions. It is simply there to help you ensure you are in the right neighborhood. Look up and around and develop your navigational skills.
